Malioboro Development Project

Kawasan Malioboro telah lama dikenal sebagai jantung dan pusat kota Yogyakarta. Sebagai kawasan yang mempunyai ciri khas yang tidak dimiliki daerah lain, Malioboro menjadi andalan Yogyakarta sebagai salah satu tujuan wisata yang memberikan sumbangan besar, baik terhadap PDRB Yogyakarta maupun pendapatan masyarakat di sektor ekonomi yang berkaitan dengan pariwisata.
Namun demikian dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, kondisi lingkungan dan daya tarik wisata Malioboro mulai mengalami kemunduran akibat tidak seimbangnya kapasitas prasarana yang ada dengan berkembangnya kegiatan yang ada didalamnya. Perkembangan yang terjadi di kawasan tersebut cenderung spontan dan tidak terencana, kondisi tersebut dikhawatirkan bisa memudarkan nuansa kota Yogyakarta sebagai kota sejarah dan budaya yang cukup tua sehingga otomatis mengurangi daya tarik Yogyakarta sebagai daerah tujuan wisata utama.
Image kawasan dengan multi fungsi menyebabkan pemadatan aktivitas sosio-budaya-ekonomis. Pada saat ini telah berkembang persepsi kawasan Malioboro yang semrawut, kotor dan cenderung menuju kearah kekumuhan. Belum lagi arus lalu lintas yang kurang teratur, dan sering macet di lintas jalan utama Malioboro, jalan ventilasi serta jalan outer alternatif, seperti Jl. Bhayangkara dan Jalan Mataram.

Organizational, Operational and Financial Reform on Urban Public Transport Industry. Case: Yogyakarta Province
PUSTRAL UGM, Local Communication Office of Yogyakarta Province and Karlstads University, Sweden with the support from European Union - Indonesia Small Project Facility will carry-out The Financial and Organizational Reforms on Public Transport Industry project.
This project aims at reforming the existing regulatory policies and operational practices leading to an improved and more efficient urban bus operation, without neglecting business and commercial elements. The target groups for the actions are bus companies, local government transport office of Yogyakarta Province as the planner. These would be done through series of comprehensive researches/studies covering: assessment on current system, operation, financing, regulations and enforcement, development of a modern, commercial and customer oriented strategy followed by training and workshops to government staffs and bus operators on effective route and service planning, operational and maintenance system, followed by a demo project as a showcase for better operational system. This proposed scheme is in line with the Economy theme in the call for proposal, which includes economic policy and reform.

LIVABLE COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
 Urban development in many countries in the developing Asia and Pacific region faces many challenges confronting social-economic development issues and environmental issues. In the decentralized system currently experienced by the City of Yogyakarta, Indonesia – the local government should seek ways to integrate the above concerns ensuring the benefit of business community and public-at-large, not only for the present but also for future generation. As a major cultural tourism destination, Yogyakarta should also be able to maintain the harmony between culture, environment and economic development.
